Internet Excavation #12

Last modified date

Internet Excavations is a series of posts highlighting curiosities found while driving a Delorean down the Information Superhighway.

This post is part of a series of internet excavations which will spotlight the origins of some of our server names, all of which (if you hadn’t noticed) are inspired by famous dinosaurs throughout history.

Server spotlight: Archie

The server hostname Archie was inspired from a satirical comic Dinosaurs for Hire written by American writer Tom Mason in 1988. The main protagonist was Archie, a Tyrannosaurus with costume design that was heavily influenced by the Terminator, as seen in James Cameron’s hit film “The Terminator” released in 1984 featuring the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Let’s take a peep at Archie’s attire:

He surely does look like a Dinosaur you wouldn’t want to mess with! And sometimes he looks, well… incredibly terrifying:

Archie was assigned as the hostname for one of our Performance hosting servers. Our Performance hosting servers are designed for high traffic, demanding web applications, and Archie surely looks like he could handle almost anything- including a meteor shower, which is why Archie was the perfect tribute for one of our performance-optimised servers.
